AE 481W/482 Course Reflection
AE 481W/482 was tough, but a great learning experience. Students finally get to apply what they have learned throughout 5 years of schooling to a real project. It is now the students turn to determine a path of their choice. They get to analyze and make improvements on a building of their choice, with their specialties in mind. Overall this was one of the most time consuming, tedious, mind numbing, and worthwhile assignments. This course will allow students to get a real world experience and prepare us for our future occupations, no matter what concentration in Architectural Engineering.
CPEP & Discussion Board Reflection
CPEP was an interesting way to present work, although difficult to figure out for those who have never made a website before, definitely a valuable learning experience. These submissions were easy to post, a great deal easier then actually turning in a paper copy. Due to the focus of my Thesis being sustainability, this was almost painful to use all that paper, ink, money, and energy to produce the paper copies, when many found it more beneficial to view them online on the computer. This is not something that will likely change because our world is still very much a paper world, but it is an interesting thought.
The discussion board was a very useful resource. Although with the work I was performing it was not needed as much as some other thesis topics, most of the questions asked were responded to quite promptly. It would have been used more if my thesis topics were more common practices, and the help of the professors, students, and engineers on the actual project were not as readily available.
