Thesis Proposal (Revised 2-15-2008)

This proposal reflects a revision to my Construction Management Breadth Study. I will not perform an analysis on the bridge construction process; rather, I will examine the cost and scheduling related to modifying the existing structural system.

Breadth #1: Architectural Study

The first breadth study, an architectural study will include a review of the building program, in connection with the additional lateral framing system generated from the structural study.  As the structural study will ultimately impact the architecture of the building, an architectural breadth must be investigated to determine the complete impact of the new design.  Following analysis, the floor plan of the Law School Building will be revised to accommodate the new structure.  Each floor will be reworked to generate benefits from the structural design if internal bracing or shear walls are selected.  If exterior braces are implemented, a façade modification will be analyzed.

Breadth #2: Construction Management Study

The second breadth study is a cost and schedule analysis of the proposed structural system.  This method of construction will eliminate the need for moment connections--reducing overall schedule and cost of the project. The new system will be compared to that of the existing system to determine the effectiveness of the modifications on a level more closely related to owner satisfaction.
