Technical Assignments
For technical assignment 1, an existing lighting condition study was done to examine what is currently being installed in the building. An evaluation of light levels, daylighting, and power usage were all factors in my study. I developed some design criteria by which my redesign will be focused on and verified if the existing conditions also paid attention to these. From this study, I learned a great deal about my building and the effects the lighting design had on the spaces.
For technical assignment #2, an existing electrical system study was done to examine how UCSD Cal IT2 is being powered and operated. I totaled the entire building power and verified the size of the main three feeders coming into the building as specified by the engineers. I also verified the size of the three sub-stations which feed the power to all the distribution and panel boards. From this study, I gained a great deal of knowledge about the electrical system of UCSD Cal IT2 and how it will operate in case of a power outtage.
For technical assignment #3, a schematic design presentation was developed to present to various lighting designers. I developed a lighting scheme for the selected spaces in Cal IT2. After developing my concepts, sketches were drawn along with computer photoshop layouts to clearly express my design intent for the space. From this presentation, I have gained a great deal of experience with presenting my ideas and expressing my design focus.
