Donna Kent 'Beyond the Student '

Donna (left) was born and raised in Corry, PA; a small town in Northwestern, PA. Throughout High School, she strived for excellence in hopes of attending a well known university to further her education. Donna chose The Pennsylvania State University, not for just its prestige, but also the beautiful campus, which, in a subtle way reminded her of the expanses of nature at her home.

Donna came into the University undecided, and through luck, fell into the Architectural Engineering Major. She had always enjoyed architecture and constructing buildings with her family, but the First Year Seminar class sealed the deal, and she was off to learn the most in the intriguing field. Donna is now accepted into the Integrated Bachelor and Master Degree Program in the ABET accredited Architectural Engineering Major, with a focus in Structures. She intends to graduate in December 2007.

Donna has had two internships. She has had the good fortune of working with one company for two summers. This company was Jeff Zell Consultants. For them, she performed lab and field duties such as making and testing concrete cylinders, taking Nuclear Gauge Soils Density Tests, and assisting with proctors and other Geotechnical Engineering soils tests. Her second internship was with Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates out of Cleveland. There, she learned the repair side of industry. She assisted with computer drafting and also investigating the failed sections of buildings. Both internships were very beneficial to her education and she is always looking for more to learn. She has accepted a summer internship at Structural Design Group in the Residential Design department. She looks forward to it as a leap in the direction of achieving her dream as a residential designer.

Looking to the future, Donna has many career interests. She has passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and someday expects to receive her Professional Engineer's License. Donna would like to try out all aspects of the Industry including design and repair. Her passion, however, is for Historic Buildings and Residential design. She someday hopes to design her own house and others in the Tri-State Area.
