Depth Work

The Depth Work will include a lighting redesign of four different spaces in the Grand Oaks Assisted Living Facility. These spaces include the Lobby, Living Room/Library, Dining Room, and Building Exterior entry and walkway. The spaces will be redesigned based on design criteria established by the IESNA, and general design goals that I set forth. The comments from the Schematic Design proposal will be evaluated, and implemented. The redesign will be energy efficient, aesthetically pleasing, and take into account the various visibility issues that older adults are dealing with on a day to day basis.

Depth Work will also include an investigation of the electrical service to the Grand Oaks addition. This investigation will look at the addition of a section to the Main Service Switchgear from which a single feeder will be extended over to the addition. Overcurrent protection devices, conductor sizes, and voltage drop issues will all be calculated based on specified NEC parameters.

Breadth Work

The Breadth work will include an investigation into the use of ground source heat pump units. The heat pump will be the main air distribution system in the residents’ rooms. With this investigation, I will study the energy savings of heat pumps verses what is currently installed, fan coil units. This will lead me into the second Breath Work topic, Construction Management. This breath topic will include cost analysis of the various systems that have been described within the proposal and their potential for energy and initial cost savings.
