Thesis Abstract

The FDA-CDRH Laboratory is an excellent building to use in refining my abilities as a structural option student as well as an architectural engineering student. It is constructed using a cast-in-place one-way concrete system with a steel framed roof which allows me to study both concrete and steel construction methods. The building also utilizes progressive collapse beams for a more challenging demonstration of my understanding of structural systems. As a laboratory, this building presents such complexities as specialty mechanical and electrical systems and a very detailed high-bay laboratory design. These issues are key to my understanding of all major building systems.
