Eligibility and Application Requirements

The program’s projects are suitable for students majoring in:

  • Engineering
  • Biology or related field
  • Computer science
  • Climate science
  • Environmental science
  • Environmental studies
  • Sociology

Eligibility

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate program (with preference to upper division students) in the United States
  • United State citizen or permanent resident
  • Knowledge of computer programming and Spanish is desirable but not necessary

Application

To access the IRES application, interested applicants must have a Penn State Access Account. If you are not a current Penn State student, visit accounts.psu.edu and follow the prompts to create your account.

Applicants must submit:

  • Résumé or CV
  • Transcript
  • A statement detailing relevant academic/professional experiences and interest in this program (one page maximum, 12-point font, 1" margins, single-spaced)
  • Names and email addresses of two references who will be contacted later in the process
  • All items listed above must be submitted in one single PDF file
