Assistant Research Professor

The Pennsylvania State University College of Engineering is seeking candidates for an Assistant Research Professor within the Engineering Science and Mechanics Department. The Assistant Research Professor will develop ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation and, more general, elastic wave modeling and simulation tools to better understand how ultrasound and elastic waves interact with heterogeneities in materials. The research is expected to have significant broad impacts within the fields of acoustics, ultrasonics, nondestructive evaluation, and seismology.

The Assistant Research Professor will work with faculty members and students conducting research in like areas. In addition, the candidate is expected to disseminate research findings to the relevant communities and communicate with the communities to adapt modeling features aligned with current and future scientific needs. The candidate must be open to working with and training undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the candidate will assist in execution of reporting requirements to sponsors in addition to collaborating with relevant faculty members on proposals for external funding to grow their collaborative research areas.

Education and Experience: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Mathematics, Computational Sciences, or Engineering with a strong track record related to the research area. Applicants should have at least two years of postdoctoral research in a closely related research area and have extensive experience with computational tools like Matlab and scientific communication modalities like LaTeX.

This is a non-tenure-line, term appointment, funded for one year from date of hire, with excellent possibility of re-funding.
