Purpose:
The AFS mission is to work toward a more just and peaceful world by providing international and intercultural learning experiences to individuals, families, schools, and communities through a global volunteer partnership. AFS is a worldwide, nonprofit organization that exchanges more than 13,000 students each year among a partnership of more than 50 AFS partner countries. It was established in 1947 by American Field Service volunteer ambulance drivers of World Wars I and II who believed--as AFS believes today--that the way to build a more just and peaceful world begins when people from different countries meet, learn about each other,and begin to understand each other.
Eligibility:
To be considered for the 2022-23 CBYX scholarship for high school, you must be:
A U.S. citizen
Aged 15 to 18 ½ on August 1 of the program departure year
A current high school student at the time of application, with a GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
Interest in learning the German language (no German language study/knowledge is required to apply)
Comply with U.S. Department of State eligibility policy for American Outbound Youth Programs (click here to view that policy)
Terms of Award:
Full-year scholarship including round-trip transatlantic flight, university tuition, language training, living stipend, and program-related travel costs in Germany
