Northrop Grumman Innovation Hack Week
Innovation Hack Week is a 10-day event where students across Penn State form teams of 3–5 to solve an innovative challenge for a chance to win a cash prize. This year's challenge is an Object Detection Challenge in which teams develop and build an object recognition program that involves finding and locating objects in images. Teams will be judged on their solution’s ability to detect objects and accurately classify them using the given image.
Innovation Hack Week participants will:
- Gain experience working in a team to build a real business solution
- Have the opportunity to work alongside Northrop Grumman (NG) technical and business leaders
- Learn about internship and full-time job opportunities available at Northrop Grumman
- Have a chance to win cash prizes ($1,000—2,500 for top 3 teams)
Open to all majors, but likely of most interest to CMPEN, CMPSC, and EE majors. No prior hackathon experience required; coding experience with MATLAB and/or Python is recommended but not required.
Registered teams will receive links to participate in the virtual Kick-Off Event on October 21 (5:30–6:30 p.m.) and the virtual Expo/Showcase Day on November 1 (3:00–5:30 p.m.).
