Master Facilities Plan Implementation
In 2018, Penn State* engaged Payette, a Boston-based architecture firm, to develop a master plan and framework to increase the quantity, improve the quality, and optimize the distribution and organization of the College of Engineering’s physical space across two budgetary funding cycles through 2028.
With the construction of two new teaching and research buildings on West Campus, a new hub of engineering activity is taking shape at University Park; one where students, faculty, alumni, staff, and members of industry can converge and collaborate.
Beyond the West Campus development, phase one of the college's master facilities plan proposes additional initiatives requiring future Board of Trustees' approval that will dramatically reshape the University Park campus adjacent to West College Avenue.
Demolition:
- Bayard D. Kunkle Activities Center
- Engineering Units A, B, and C
- North and south wings of Sackett Building
Renovation:
- Sackett Building core with the addition of new symmetrical north and south wings
Demolition:
- Hammond Building
Additionally, a second phase of the master facilities plan, with initiatives also requiring Board of Trustees' approval, proposes new construction on the footprint of the previously demolished Hammond Building
